METRO, Rapid transit system in the Twin Cities
METRO is a public transportation network serving Minneapolis and Saint Paul with light rail trains, bus rapid transit, and regular buses. The Blue Line connects the airport to downtown and sports venues, the Green Line links Minneapolis with the University of Minnesota and downtown Saint Paul, while dedicated bus rapid transit corridors like the Gold Line and Orange Line serve northern suburbs and areas along I-35W.
The system was built to connect the growing Minneapolis-Saint Paul region more efficiently as the cities expanded. Over time, new lines and extensions have been added to serve more neighborhoods, suburbs, and key destinations like the airport and shopping centers.
Trains and buses run all day with frequent service approximately every 15 minutes, making long waits uncommon. Stations display real-time arrival information, clear signage, and staffing to help travelers navigate and plan their trips.
The Blue Line features dedicated tracks that run directly from the airport terminal through the city to downtown and sports venues, giving arriving travelers an easy way to reach key attractions without needing a car. This direct airport connection is a standout feature of the system.
