Minneapolis YMCA Central Building
Minneapolis YMCA Central Building, Historic clubhouse in downtown Minneapolis, United States.
The Minneapolis YMCA Central Building stands as a 12-story Gothic Revival structure with pointed arches and detailed stonework at 36 South 9th Street.
Architects Louis Long, Lowell Lamoreaux, Shattuck, and Hussey designed this Gothic Revival building, which opened its doors in 1919 for community activities.
The building represents the evolution of urban recreation facilities, reflecting early 20th-century American values through its Gothic architectural elements and social programs.
In 1994, the Minneapolis YMCA Central Building transformed into a 121-unit apartment complex while maintaining its architectural character and historical status.
The structure features vertical Gothic styling that creates a corporate symbol while incorporating religious architectural elements into its downtown setting.
