Dain Rauscher Plaza, Office skyscraper at Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, United States
Dain Rauscher Plaza, now known as RBC Plaza, is a 40-story glass and steel office tower on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. It connects to three neighboring buildings and to the Central Library through the city's indoor skyway network.
The tower opened in 1992 under the name Dain Rauscher Plaza, after a regional financial firm based in Minneapolis. When the Royal Bank of Canada acquired that firm, the building was renamed RBC Plaza in 2008.
The name RBC Plaza reflects the Canadian bank that now owns the building, giving this Minneapolis tower a cross-border identity. Inside, the skyway level is used daily by office workers and locals who move through the city without stepping outside.
The tower stands directly on Nicollet Mall, making it easy to reach on foot from most parts of downtown. In cold or rainy weather, the skyway system lets visitors move between nearby buildings without going outside.
In 2014, the building received both LEED Gold certification and an Energy Star label for its energy performance. Getting both recognitions for a tower built in 1992 is not common, as most retrofits of that scale achieve only one.
