Foshay Tower, Art Deco skyscraper in downtown Minneapolis, United States
Foshay Tower is a 32-story skyscraper in downtown Minneapolis with an Indiana limestone exterior and stands approximately 447 feet (136 m) tall. The building displays Art Deco design inspired by the Washington Monument.
The tower was completed in 1929 and remained the tallest building in Minneapolis until 1972, when taller structures were built. Its architectural significance later led to National Register of Historic Places status.
The building houses a museum displaying construction photographs, brass keys, and personal items belonging to Wilbur Foshay, including his silk top hat. These collections show the connection between the building's creator and his vision for the city.
The observation deck on the 30th floor offers views across the city and is accessible by elevators from the main entrance. Visitors should allow time to enjoy the views and explore the interior architectural details.
The building was transformed into the W Minneapolis hotel in 2008, preserving the original Art Deco design throughout. Inside you will also find Manny's Steakhouse, which reflects the elegance of that era.
