Foshay Tower, Art Deco skyscraper in downtown Minneapolis, United States

The Foshay Tower rises 447 feet with 32 floors, featuring Indiana limestone exterior walls and an architectural design inspired by the Washington Monument.

Completed in 1929, the tower remained the tallest building in Minneapolis until 1972 and gained National Register of Historic Places status for its architectural merit.

The building includes a museum displaying construction photographs, brass keys, and personal items belonging to Wilbur Foshay, including his silk top hat.

The observation deck on the 30th floor provides views across Minneapolis, with access through elevators that transport visitors from the main entrance.

The structure transformed into W Minneapolis hotel in 2008, incorporating Manny's Steakhouse and maintaining the original Art Deco design elements throughout the building.

Minnesota secret locations and unusual places

Minnesota contains numerous locations away from the main tourist circuits. The state stretches from the shores of Lake Superior to the southern prairies, encompassing historic lighthouses, underground mines, waterfalls, and Japanese gardens. Visitors find both natural landscapes and cultural sites that tell the story of the region's history. Notable locations include prehistoric rock carvings at Jeffers Petroglyphs Site, where indigenous peoples left their marks thousands of years ago, and sacred trees of Ojibwe culture. The geological formation known as Devil's Kettle, a waterfall whose course puzzled scientists for years, attracts visitors interested in natural phenomena. Historic mines provide insight into Minnesota's industrial past, while lighthouses recall the maritime history along the largest of the Great Lakes.

Minneapolis: Must-Visit Attractions

Minneapolis features major museums like the Minneapolis Institute of Art, showcasing millennia-old art collections, and the Walker Art Center, focused on contemporary art. The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Minnehaha Park with its 53-foot waterfall, and the Chain of Lakes network provide natural spaces. Downtown features the Art Deco-style Foshay Tower, the Skyway system, as well as the Orpheum and Guthrie theaters. Sporting venues include the Target Field and the U.S. Bank Stadium. The Mill City Museum and Fort Snelling reflect the city's industrial and military history.
