Mahatma Gandhi Memorial, Bronze memorial in MacArthur Square, Milwaukee, United States.
The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial is a bronze statue standing 8 feet 8 inches tall in MacArthur Square in front of the Milwaukee County Courthouse. The figure depicts him walking with a staff, wearing traditional clothing, glasses, and sandals.
The memorial was unveiled on October 5, 2002, during a ceremony that included a peace march and speeches from local officials and Indian Ambassador Lalit Mansingh. The sculpture was created by artist Gautam Pal.
The memorial was funded by the Wisconsin Coalition of Asian Indian Organizations, representing 16 community groups and reflecting the growth of Indian culture in Milwaukee. This shows how meaningful the location is to the local Indian community.
The statue stands directly in front of the Milwaukee County Courthouse between doors labeled Truth and Justice. The location is easily accessible and a natural stop for anyone visiting the courthouse.
The bronze statue faces east toward downtown Milwaukee and Lake Michigan. This orientation symbolizes the direction of Gandhi's spiritual homeland.
