Mayflower Hotel, Historic hotel in Downtown, Washington D.C., United States.
The Mayflower Hotel is a Beaux-Arts building in Downtown Washington with ten floors and more than five hundred eighty rooms, designed by Warren and Wetmore in the 1920s. The facade shows articulated stonework, while the lobby features tall ceilings and classical columns.
The property opened in February 1925 under the name Hotel Walker and was later renamed. It remained in operation throughout the 20th century and repeatedly attracted high-profile guests.
The building has long served as a gathering place for political receptions and social events in the capital. Many inaugural celebrations took place here, and the public spaces still carry traces of this tradition today.
The hotel sits two blocks north of Farragut Square and a short walk from the Metro station bearing the same name. The central location makes it easy to reach government buildings and business districts.
The original name Hotel Walker referred to the former owner of the land on which the building was constructed. The renaming occurred shortly after opening to recall the historic 17th-century sea voyage.
