McConahay Building, commercieel gebouw in Missouri, Verenigde Staten van Amerika

The McConahay Building is a two-story brick structure completed in 1922 with five storefronts on the ground floor and offices above. Its facade features geometric patterns created with different colored bricks plus decorative terracotta and stone elements that give the structure a carefully crafted appearance.

The structure was designed in 1922 by architect Nelle E. Peters, a pioneering woman in her field in Kansas City. That same year, Walt Disney opened his Laugh-O-Gram film studio there before moving to California in 1923 to eventually achieve greater success.

The building sits in what was once called Millionaires Row, a neighborhood that shifted from grand homes to a working district over the decades. It represents a layer of city life where business and creativity happened while the area around it transformed into a more diverse community.

The building stands at 1121 to 1131 East 31st Street and can be viewed from the street, allowing you to see the brick details and ornaments from different angles. Since it is a historic site, visiting during warmer months makes it easier to see the facade features clearly.

Mice lived in the building while scavenging for crumbs, and one may have inspired Walt Disney to create the famous mouse character. This small anecdote connects an ordinary moment from the studio's daily life to one of the world's most influential animated figures.
