Mount Prospect Park, Public park in Brooklyn, United States
Mount Prospect Park is a green space in central Brooklyn covering about 7.79 acres with walking paths and planted areas. The park sits atop an elevated ridge, making it one of the highest points in the neighborhood.
During the Battle of Long Island in 1776, the Continental Army used this hilltop as a lookout to monitor movements across Manhattan and Brooklyn. The location's height made it militarily important during the American Revolution.
The park forms part of Brooklyn's cultural district, positioned between the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch.
The park connects to several subway lines and bus routes, with entrances on Eastern Parkway and Underhill Avenue making it easy to reach from different parts of the city. Plan to wear comfortable shoes since the terrain slopes upward toward the summit.
As the second-highest point in Brooklyn, this location once offered views stretching to the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island. Modern urban development has since altered what can be seen from the summit today.
