The National Hellenic Museum occupies a 40,000-square-foot building at the intersection of Halsted and Van Buren Streets in Chicago's Greektown district.
Founded in 1983 as the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center, the institution moved to its present location in December 2011 after extensive modernization.
The museum houses 18,000 artifacts, 10,000 books and documents, and 200 oral histories that document Greek heritage from 1200 BCE to modern times.
Visitors can access the museum's permanent exhibitions, rotating galleries, library, research center, and oral history center at 333 South Halsted Street.
The collection includes rare manuscripts and volumes that detail Greek immigration experiences, while local chefs present Mediterranean dishes during the annual Kouzina event.
