Citigroup Center is a 42-story high-rise at 500 West Madison Street between Clinton and Canal Streets, recognized by its distinctive geometric glass facade. The building houses multiple office floors designed to accommodate numerous companies and professional firms.
Construction of this skyscraper began in 1984 under the original name Northwestern Atrium Center and was completed in 1987. The building has since become a defining feature of the downtown business district.
German architect Helmut Jahn incorporated late modernist elements into the design, reflecting the architectural principles of 1980s commercial buildings.
The building sits directly on public transit routes, making it easy to reach by train or bus. Its central location puts nearby restaurants, shops, and other downtown attractions within short walking distance.
A major renovation from 2021 to 2022 replaced the building's structural components and installed advanced technology systems throughout. This update kept the structure modern while preserving its original architectural character.
