Boeing International Headquarters, Corporate skyscraper in Near West Side, Chicago, United States
Boeing International Headquarters is a 36-story office tower positioned along the Chicago River in the Near West Side neighborhood. The building sits above active railroad tracks and contains extensive office space with direct connections to riverside pathways and public transit.
The building opened in 1990 as Morton International Building before Boeing relocated its headquarters from Seattle in 2001. This move made Chicago the command center for one of the world's largest aerospace companies.
The building shaped Chicago's corporate identity when a major aerospace company relocated its operations here from the Pacific Northwest. Today it stands as a visible symbol of how industry influences the city's economy and urban character.
The building sits beside the Chicago Riverwalk with easy access to public transportation options nearby. Since this is an active office building, the public areas are restricted, so plan to view it mainly from outside or along the river path.
The architects suspended the southwest corner of the building using massive steel trusses to leave space for train tracks below. This engineering solution allowed the office tower to rest above active railroad lines without disrupting service.
