111 South Wacker Drive, Office skyscraper in Chicago, United States
111 South Wacker Drive is a modern office tower with 45 floors rising approximately 208 meters in downtown Chicago. The building features extensive glass facades and occupies a prominent position in the southwest corner of the Loop district.
Construction finished in 2005, replacing an earlier U.S. Gypsum Building that previously stood on the site. The new tower represented a shift in the redevelopment of the southwestern Loop district.
The structure houses major corporate headquarters and shapes how the financial district looks and functions. During business hours, thousands of workers move through its lobbies, creating the pulse of downtown commerce.
The building sits at a key transportation hub with easy connections to public transit and major roads. Visitors can freely explore the lobby and ground level, though upper floors are private office space.
The building's parking ramp spirals upward in a circular pattern, and this spiral is unexpectedly visible from below through glass panels in the lobby ceiling. This creates a surprising architectural detail at the building's core.
