Franklin Center, Skyscraper in Loop District, Chicago, US
Franklin Center is a 307-meter skyscraper in Chicago's Loop District, made up of two connected towers rising more than 60 floors. The granite facade changes from deep red at the base to a pale rose beige at the top, with three setback levels that break up the vertical rise.
The building was completed in 1989 under the name AT&T Corporate Center, after the telecommunications company that first occupied it. As tenants changed over the years, the connection to the nearby Franklin Street became the new reference point for its name.
The name comes from Franklin Street, which runs nearby through the financial district. The large interior atrium acts as a passage where people move between the two towers or stop briefly between meetings.
Entrances on Adams Street lead into a two-level retail area inside the complex. Underground parking is available below the building, and the central atrium makes it easy to find your way between the two towers.
The 16-story atrium that links the two towers spans an entire city block, turning the interior into a covered passage open to foot traffic. This makes the building part of the daily flow of the surrounding financial district in a way that most skyscrapers are not.
