Franklin Center, Skyscraper in Loop District, Chicago, US
Franklin Center is a 307-meter tall skyscraper in Chicago's Loop District completed in 1989 with more than 60 floors. The granite exterior shifts from deep red at the base to rose beige at the top, with three setback levels that mark the building's rise.
The building was completed in 1989 and originally named AT&T Corporate Center after the telephone company became its first major tenant. It was later renamed as occupancy shifted and the Franklin Street address took on new importance.
The name derives from Franklin Street in the financial district, while the shifting granite exterior changes tone throughout the day. The atrium connecting both towers creates a gathering space where visitors pause and navigate between the separate structures.
Entrances face Adams Street and provide access to the two-story retail zone and restaurant facilities. The underground parking beneath the complex and the central atrium help visitors navigate the dual tower layout.
The 16-story atrium connects two neighboring buildings across an entire city block and functions as an internal passage. This unusual linkage reveals how the architecture brings multiple structures together into one cohesive system.
