19 South LaSalle Street, Mixed-use building in downtown Chicago, US
19 South LaSalle Street is a 16-story mixed-use building in downtown Chicago with an L-shaped footprint. Its facade along LaSalle Street measures approximately 54 feet (16 meters), while the section facing Arcade Place extends roughly 187 feet (57 meters).
The building was completed in 1893 by the architecture firm Jenney & Mundie during a challenging period for American economy. Its original design was later modified to add more floors above its initial conception.
The building received recognition in the 2004 American Institute of Architects Guide to Chicago for its contribution to the city's architectural landscape.
The building houses retail spaces and office areas serving different business tenants throughout its floors. Visitors can explore the ground level with its current retail operations, while upper floors primarily serve as office space.
The original peaked roof was removed to accommodate three additional stories added later. This alteration shaped the building's current appearance and shows how structures adapt to changing urban needs.
