Nehemiah Royce House, Colonial residence in Wallingford, Connecticut.
The Nehemiah Royce House at 538 North Main Street features a traditional saltbox design with a long sloping roof extending toward the rear section.
George Washington made two visits to the house, in 1775 while traveling to lead the Continental Army and in 1789 to address local residents.
The residence represents early American colonial architecture and remains a testament to the original 38 proprietors who established Wallingford in 1670.
The Wallingford Historic Preservation Trust maintains this National Register of Historic Places property, allowing visitors to examine colonial construction methods.
The structure served continuously as a family residence for over 200 years before its relocation in 1924 and subsequent transformation into a museum.
