The district includes the gothic-revival Northford Congregational Church, designed by architect Henry Austin, and several pre-Civil War houses illustrating local architectural evolution.
Visitors can explore this 230-acre district by following Middletown Avenue from the village center to its northern junction with Old Post Road.
Among the district's structures stands a tavern from 1776, which serves as a testament to the early commercial activities of colonial Connecticut.
