Neusiok Trail, Protected hiking trail in Craven County, North Carolina, United States.
The Neusiok Trail is a hiking route spanning about 20 kilometers through Croatan National Forest, running from Neuse River beach to Newport River salt marsh. The path crosses varied habitats and forms part of a larger multi-state hiking system.
The trail was established in 1971 by the Carteret County Wildlife Club working with the U.S. Forest Service. This partnership between local conservationists and federal authorities created this popular hiking route.
The name Neusiok comes from the indigenous people who lived along this coastal region. Visitors walking here connect with this heritage through the land itself, which has remained central to the area for centuries.
The trail provides three shelters - Copperhead Landing, Dogwood Camp, and Blackjack Lodge - offering overnight accommodations for multi-day hikes. These facilities are spread along the route to help hikers plan their daily distances.
The path crosses several distinct ecosystems, from cypress swamps to pine forests with rare plant species. This variety makes each hike a journey through dramatically different natural landscapes.
