Cape Lookout Village Historic District, Maritime heritage district in Carteret County, United States.
Cape Lookout Village Historic District is a coastal settlement in North Carolina containing about 20 buildings and structures spread across a large area. The site includes residences, maritime work buildings, and the prominent lighthouse station that anchors the district.
The settlement began in 1887 as a coastal community for maritime workers and their families. Activity as a residential area ended in 1960, though the lighthouse station and other maritime buildings remained standing.
The district shows Queen Anne and American Craftsman features through buildings like the Life Saving Station and the Lighthouse Keeper's Quarters. These structures reflect the daily life of the coastal workers and families who once called this place home.
The area is only accessible by passenger ferry from Harkers Island or Beaufort. Once there, visitors can explore the district on foot, by shuttle service, or with rented vehicles.
The Jetty Workers House II from 1915 is the last standing home of workers who built the jetty at Cape Lookout Bight. This building tells the story of a workforce that no longer exists in this location.
