The project began in 1993 through a mayoral proposal and was formally announced in 1996 as a major development initiative. After facing legal challenges, the plan evolved into a different retail project, with a furniture retailer taking over a significant portion of the original site.
The retail center included plans for a training academy to prepare local residents for careers in retail management and store operations.
The center is easily accessible and offers ample parking for visitors arriving by car. Multiple entrances and clear signage help visitors navigate through the complex.
Following numerous legal challenges, the project transformed into a different retail development, with IKEA acquiring 306,000 square feet of the original site in 2003.
