Notchview, Nordic ski area in Windsor, Massachusetts, United States.
Notchview is a Nordic and skate skiing area set on a high ridge in the Hoosac Mountains in Windsor, Massachusetts. The property offers around 27 kilometers of groomed trails that pass through forested sections and open meadows at over 2,000 feet (610 m) in elevation.
The Trustees of Reservations began developing the area in 1965 as a public winter sports destination. Before that, the land had been privately held and was not open to the general public.
The Budd Visitor Center is the natural meeting point on the property, where skiers warm up and talk after a tour. A masonry heater with soapstone seats gives the space a warmth that feels more like a farmhouse than a ski lodge.
The ridge position means snow tends to last longer here than at lower spots nearby, making the season longer than expected. Warm layers are a must, and equipment rental is available on site for those who do not bring their own gear.
The ridge where the area sits is one of the snowiest spots in Massachusetts because storm systems tend to drop more snow there than in the surrounding valleys. Skiers who struggle to find reliable snow elsewhere in the region often make this their first stop of the season.
