Old Catonsville Historic District

Old Catonsville Historic District is a residential area spanning over 100 acres with a large collection of homes from different periods. In addition to the houses, the area includes three churches, a modern public library, and a distinctive Art Deco water tower.

The area developed as a residential community when electric railways were built and people moved here from the city. It was officially recognized as a historic district in 2002 because it shows this period of growth.

The buildings reflect different architectural styles that developed over many decades as people built their homes here. Walking through the streets, you can see how construction tastes changed and evolved across generations.

The area is easy to explore on foot since the houses are spread out along streets that are straightforward to navigate. The terrain is flat and easy to walk through, making it pleasant for a casual stroll.

Many houses still maintain their own separate garages, small buildings tucked behind the main houses. These garages are a rare detail showing how people once stored their vehicles separately from their homes.
