Paper Mill Playhouse, Professional theatre in Millburn, United States
Paper Mill Playhouse is a theatre building in Millburn, New Jersey, United States, constructed in 1934 and standing along the west branch of the Rahway River. The auditorium seats 1,200 people and hosts musicals and stage productions throughout its performance season.
The building rose on the site of a former paper mill and gradually developed into a regional theatre. In 2016 the venue received the Regional Theatre Tony Award in recognition of its role in American theatrical life.
The playhouse takes its name from the paper mill that once operated along the river, and the building still carries traces of that industrial past. Productions range from contemporary musicals to classic Broadway works, and many theatergoers combine their visit with dinner in the adjoining restaurant.
Performances typically take place eight times per week, and tickets start around 35 dollars. The venue provides services for visitors with disabilities, including audio descriptions and sign language interpreters.
The F.M. Kirby Carriage Restaurant sits within the theatre complex, allowing visitors to combine dinner and a show at the same address. The venue also runs education programs that reach around 40,000 students each year.
