Paseo YMCA, Historical YMCA building in Kansas City, Missouri
The three-story Colonial Revival structure features symmetrical red brick walls, decorative stone trim, and large windows spanning its rectangular facade.
The Paseo YMCA, constructed in 1914 with funds raised by philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, became a registered National Historic Place in September 1991.
Eight independent black baseball team owners gathered at this location in 1920 to establish the Negro National League, marking a milestone in sports history.
The building stands near the intersection of East 18th Street and The Paseo, with renovation plans scheduled for completion by 2028.
Local architect Charles A. Smith incorporated traditional Colonial Revival elements while adapting the design to meet specific YMCA community requirements.
