Parkway Theatre, Historic theatre in Brownsville, Brooklyn, US
Parkway Theatre is a three-story building located at the corner of St. Johns Place and Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. The structure combines steel and concrete with a buff-colored brick facade adorned with terra cotta ornamental details.
The building was constructed in 1928 as an entertainment venue and functioned in this role until 1956. Afterwards it was converted to a religious space and has maintained that purpose since.
The building exhibits Moorish architectural elements throughout its structure, incorporating design patterns from the late 1920s entertainment venues.
The building sits at a busy corner and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors can admire the external architecture and details that remain visible from the street.
Architect Harrison G. Wiseman designed the building using an innovative steel-frame construction technique. The building gained National Register of Historic Places recognition in 2010.
