13th Regiment Armory, Military armory turned homeless shelter in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, US
The 13th Regiment Armory features round-arched stone sally ports flanked by turreted towers, with a barrel-vaulted drill shed and administration building.
Constructed between 1892 and 1894 for the New York State Militia, the armory underwent transformation in the 1980s to address growing homelessness needs.
Now operating as Pamoja House, the facility serves men experiencing homelessness under management by Black Veterans for Social Justice organization.
Located at 357 Marcus Garvey Boulevard, the shelter maintains 200 beds and operates under supervision of the New York City Department of Homeless Services.
The construction budget doubled from initial estimates to 700,000 dollars, leading local newspapers to describe it as a scandal of uncommon dimensions.
