Peoples National Bank and Trust Company Building, Classical Revival bank building in White Plains, New York.
The Peoples National Bank and Trust Company Building is a nine-story structure of limestone and brick with terra cotta ornaments at street level. It features an L-shaped floor plan and combines Classical Revival elements with commercial design principles from the early 1900s.
Designed by architects Harold P. Zoller and Frank N. Goble, the building was completed in 1929 during a period of economic growth and banking expansion in Westchester County. It gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in September 2000.
The building represents an era when banks were civic landmarks designed to inspire confidence through monumental architecture. Its Classical style was meant to convey permanence and financial security to customers and the public alike.
Located at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains' business district, the building is easily accessible from the street. The ornamental details at ground level are best viewed from the sidewalk, where the craftsmanship of the lower section is most apparent.
The two-story base displays carefully crafted limestone work that contrasts sharply with the upper floors, where brick with limestone trim becomes the primary material. This material shift reflects the architects' emphasis on creating a strong, distinguished ground presence for the banking institution.
