The Platte Purchase Bridge was a highway crossing over the Missouri River that connected Kansas City in Kansas with Platte County in Missouri. It featured a main span of approximately 465 feet and maintained clearance above the water for river traffic.
The bridge opened in 1957 to relieve traffic from the older Fairfax Bridge. It was demolished between December 2016 and January 2017 after operating for nearly 60 years.
The structure represented the industrial development period of the mid-20th century, linking communities between Missouri and Kansas for six decades.
The bridge was part of US Route 69 and served traffic between the two states. Since it no longer exists, travelers in the region now use alternative routes across the Missouri River.
The bridge's main span measured 465 feet long and maintained a vertical clearance of 15 feet above the Missouri River.
