Fairfax Bridge, Steel truss bridge at Missouri-Kansas border
Fairfax Bridge is a steel truss bridge that crossed the Missouri River at the border between Missouri and Kansas. It connected the town of Riverside in Missouri to Fairfax in Kansas across 13 spans covering approximately 750 meters (2,486 feet).
The bridge was built in 1934 by the Kansas City Bridge Company and served as an important transportation link for the region. It closed in 2014 and was eventually replaced by a new structure.
The bridge represents the industrial development of the Kansas City region, serving as a connection point between two states across the Missouri River.
The bridge is no longer accessible to vehicle traffic as it closed in 2014 for replacement. A new crossing was later built at this location to restore the connection between the two states.
The longest single span of the bridge measured about 465 feet (142 meters), showcasing advanced construction methods of the 1930s. The structure was stabilized by 15 support piers anchored into the riverbed.
