Quincy Memorial Bridge, Truss road bridge in Quincy, United States.
Quincy Memorial Bridge is a truss bridge carrying eastbound traffic across the Mississippi River between Quincy, Illinois and West Quincy, Missouri on US Route 24. Its companion structure, the Bayview Bridge built in 1986, handles westbound traffic across the river.
The bridge opened in 1930 and initially charged a 50-cent toll until 1945 when construction bonds were fully paid. The structure has connected the two states across the Mississippi for nearly a century.
The bridge design demonstrates the engineering capabilities of early 20th century American infrastructure, representing regional transportation development along the Mississippi River.
The bridge is accessible only by vehicle as it carries highway traffic and does not have sidewalks for pedestrians. Views of the structure are best seen from riverside viewpoints or while crossing by car.
The original structure was paired with a companion bridge in 1986 because handling both directions of traffic on one roadway became impractical. This division of traffic flows solved congestion and safety issues from decades earlier.
