John Wood Mansion, Greek Revival mansion in Quincy, United States

The John Wood Mansion features four Doric columns, fourteen rooms, and ornate details throughout its interior and exterior, reflecting architectural excellence from 1835.

John Wood, the founder of Quincy and twelfth governor of Illinois, constructed this residence between 1835 and 1838, establishing it as a center of regional development.

The mansion displays original Wood family furnishings and period decorations, representing the domestic lifestyle of influential Illinois figures in the nineteenth century.

Visitors can explore the mansion through guided tours from April to October, with special candlelight tours offered during December each year.

Wood personally crafted the mansion's massive Doric columns using a custom-built lathe, demonstrating his dedication to architectural craftsmanship.
