Quarry Falls, Waterfall in Macon County, United States.
Quarry Falls is a tiered waterfall on the Cullasaja River where water cascades over smooth rock formations creating natural slides and flows. The water collects in a large deep pool at the base, surrounded by rock walls and vegetation.
The waterfall was named after a quarry that operated at this location and reflected local mining activities. The quarrying operation ceased long ago, leaving behind only the name and a space now used for visitor parking.
The name comes from an old quarry site that once operated across the road and now serves as the main parking area. On warm days, visitors notice people gathering to swim and jump into the cool water at the base.
The waterfall is located along Highway 64 west of the town of Highlands and has parking areas on both sides of the road. Water flow varies greatly with rainfall, so the cascade appears more impressive after a storm or heavy precipitation.
The water slides over polished rock surfaces that function like natural slides where visitors can glide downward into the pool. These smooth formations are the result of countless years of water erosion and make this spot different from typical waterfalls.
