Camp Merrie-Woode

Camp Merrie-Woode is a girls summer camp located along Fairfield Lake and nestled beneath Old Bald Mountain in the North Carolina foothills. The property features rustic wooden cabins and outdoor facilities designed for campers aged 7 to 17 years.

The camp began in 1919 as Lake Fairfield Camp founded by Marjorie Harrison, then took its current name in 1922 when Mabel Day purchased the property. These early leadership changes set the direction for the camp's development through the following decades.

British traditions and elements are woven into daily life through uniforms and camp rituals that visitors notice right away. The stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table shape how campers see themselves and interact with each other.

The camp offers a range of structured activities including horseback riding, sailing, hiking, rock climbing, theatre, and river trips on nearby streams. Plan to spend full days outdoors and bring appropriate footwear and clothing for changing mountain weather.
