The Italianate mansion contains 51 rooms across 21,965 square feet, making it the second-largest federal residence after the White House.
Construction of Quarters One began in 1870 under General Thomas Rodman and concluded in 1872, serving as housing for high-ranking military officers.
The residence received many notable guests, including Charles Lindbergh in 1927 and the Swedish royal couple, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia in 1996.
Visitors can access the building from multiple directions via I-74, taking specific exits and following Gillespie Street to reach the location.
The building holds National Historic Landmark status since 1988 and requires approximately 6 million dollars in restoration work to maintain its structure.
