Red Run Covered Bridge, Historic covered bridge in Brecknock Township, Pennsylvania.

The Red Run Covered Bridge is a wooden structure with a red exterior and white approaches spanning Muddy Creek in rural Pennsylvania. It features a double Burr arch truss design that supports the roof protecting the passageway.

This structure was built in 1866 by Elias McMellen and served as an important transportation route until 1961. After that year, a concrete bridge took over its original function for vehicle traffic.

The bridge stands as a representation of Pennsylvania's rural engineering heritage, joining the nearly 200 covered bridges that remain throughout the state.

The structure sits on private property next to a campground and can best be viewed from the roadside. The surrounding area makes for pleasant exploration of Lancaster County's countryside.

After a diversion of Muddy Creek, water no longer flows beneath the bridge, earning it the nickname "covered bridge to nowhere." This quirk makes it an unusual example of a structure that became obsolete yet still stands.
