The Road Up Raritan Historic District extends across 69 acres, featuring nine historic residences along a 1.2-mile stretch of River Road.
The district originated from a Lenape path called Assunpink Trail, which transformed into a main transportation route parallel to the Raritan River.
The houses within the district display various architectural designs including Italianate, Greek Revival, and Colonial Revival styles from different construction periods.
The district contains seven contributing properties plus two previously listed structures, including the John Field House from 1743 and W. Dunham House from 1760.
Located north of Raritan Landing, this district preserves structures from an era when the area functioned as an inland port during the 18th century.
