West Point Lake

West Point Lake is a reservoir on the Chattahoochee River in Troup County featuring rocky outcrops, deep channels, and numerous inlets along its shoreline. The water body spans a large expanse with varied banks that support different uses and reveal changing landscapes as you move around it.

The Army Corps of Engineers built the reservoir between 1965 and 1975, transforming the landscape through a major construction project. This dam creation fundamentally changed the region's geography and established a new water feature that has shaped the area ever since.

The lake maintains designated areas for wildlife protection, including three management zones that serve as habitats for deer, waterfowl, and native bird species.

The lake provides public access through parks, marinas, and campgrounds spread around its shoreline. Visitors can fish with licenses valid in both nearby states, and you should check which access point suits your planned activities.

The reservoir's water quality monitoring system, established in 1975, collects data on biological indicators, nutrients, and microbiological factors through multiple measurement stations.
