Playhouse Grave of Nadine Earles

The memorial features a small brick playhouse containing toys, dolls, and personal belongings of Nadine Earles, who died at age four in 1933.

After Nadine's death from diphtheria on December 18, 1933, her father constructed this permanent structure over her grave instead of the Christmas dollhouse she wanted.

Twenty-five children gathered at the playhouse on April 3, 1934, to commemorate what would have been Nadine's fifth birthday with games and celebrations.

The grave site is located near the entrance of Oakwood Cemetery, accessible through exit 79 off I-85 and heading north on US 29 to 1st Street.

The marble slab inside bears the inscription 'Me want it now,' reflecting the young girl's last request for the dollhouse she never received.
