Lanett, Administrative division in eastern Alabama, United States
Lanett is a city in eastern Alabama situated where the state borders Georgia at the Chattahoochee River. The cityscape features older industrial buildings and residential neighborhoods that spread along the river.
The settlement began in 1865 as Bluffton but received a new charter and name in 1895, honoring two regional textile entrepreneurs. This rename marked the start of a new chapter in the town's development.
The city bears traces of its textile industry, which shaped life here for over a hundred years and drew workers from across the region.
The city sits directly on the state border and is easily reached from either Alabama or Georgia. Most shops and services gather in the downtown area, making it possible to explore on foot.
Fort Tyler, partly within city limits, was the last Confederate fort to fall during the Civil War. Today visitors can walk to this historic spot and see the preserved remains.
