Troup County Archives and Legacy Museum On Main, Museum and archive in LaGrange, Georgia, US

The Troup County Archives and Legacy Museum on Main is a museum and archive in historic downtown LaGrange, Georgia. It holds documents, photographs, artifacts, and exhibits that trace the history of Troup County and the broader West Georgia region.

Troup County was established in 1826, and the story of its early settlers and the Creek people forms the core of the museum's exhibits. The tensions of that era are reflected in the story of William McIntosh, a Creek leader killed in 1825 after signing away Creek land to the government.

The museum sits in the heart of downtown LaGrange, where it draws both locals and visitors curious about the region's past. A rotating gallery called the Charter Foundation Gallery regularly features new exhibits from the archives or traveling collections from across the country.

The museum is in the center of LaGrange, within easy walking distance of nearby shops and cafes. Free parking is available on the street and in nearby parking decks, making it straightforward to reach by car.

Among the objects on display is a soapstone bowl believed to be about 11,000 years old, showing how far back human presence in the region goes. The museum also holds what is considered the world's oldest cotton bale, which was once exhibited at the 1904 World's Fair.
