Rose Mont

Rose Mont is a mansion combining Greek Revival and Palladian design in Gallatin. Large windows, wide porches, and multiple loggias define its classical style and interior flow.

The estate was built between 1836 and 1842 under Judge Josephus Conn Guild's direction. All materials came from the surrounding 500-acre property, which also housed a thoroughbred horse farm.

The residence received notable guests including United States Presidents James K. Polk and Andrew Johnson during its period as a private family estate.

Guided tours run from April through October, while the reception hall hosts events year-round. Visitors should check ahead about which areas are open and available to explore.

The building's eastern orientation and design keep indoor temperatures cool during hot Tennessee summers without modern air conditioning. This passive cooling method was a clever solution before electric systems existed.
