Saint Bernard's Seminary

Saint Bernard's Seminary is a complex of four interconnected buildings constructed in Victorian Gothic style using Medina Sandstone and brick detailing between 1891 and 1908. The buildings include a main structure, a chapel, Philosophy Hall, and Theology Hall that together formed a comprehensive educational center on the sprawling grounds.

The seminary was designed by architect Andrew Jackson Warner in the late 1800s and developed as a training institution for priests over several decades. It operated as a religious educational facility until 1981, when it underwent a major change in purpose.

The complex served as a training ground for priests and shaped generations of clergy from the region. This role as an educational hub left deep marks on the local Catholic community and remains visible in how the buildings are experienced today.

The complex is located in Rochester and easy to reach, with the historic buildings visible from various vantage points across the grounds. Visitors should allow time to explore the different structures and observe the architectural details of each hall.

The property was owned by photography company Kodak between 1982 and 1992 before becoming a residential community. This unexpected corporate ownership period represents a surprising chapter in the site's transformation.
