Pont de Rennes, Steel truss pedestrian bridge in High Falls district, Rochester, United States.
Pont de Rennes is a steel truss footbridge crossing the Genesee River and connecting the east and west sides of Rochester's High Falls district. The structure uses a truss framework that spans approximately 262 meters across the water.
Originally built in 1891 by architect Leffert L Buck as the Platt Street Bridge, it served vehicle traffic across the river. The structure was converted to pedestrian use in 1982 and has remained a walkway ever since.
The bridge takes its name from Rochester's sister city of Rennes, France, marking a lasting connection between the two communities. The name itself reflects this international partnership that locals recognize when crossing.
The bridge is easy to reach since it sits centrally in the High Falls district and connects different sites worth visiting in the area. Walking across during daylight hours lets you see the surroundings and river landscape most clearly.
Standing about 100 feet above the river, the bridge offers direct views of the High Falls and the gorge carved by water below. This elevated vantage point gives visitors a rare perspective on the natural power of the waterfall.
