Salty Brine State Beach, State beach in Galilee, Rhode Island.
Salty Brine State Beach is a small public beach on the Atlantic coast of Rhode Island, sitting right next to the fishing port of Galilee. It has a covered pavilion, solar-powered showers, restrooms, and lifeguard coverage during the summer months.
Der Name war gleichzeitig sein Spitzname im Radio und ein Verweis auf die salzige Meeresluft des Ortes.
From the sand, visitors can watch fishing boats and ferries moving in and out of the nearby port of Galilee, giving the spot a working waterfront feel. The port is one of the busiest fishing ports in Rhode Island, and its activity is easy to sense from the shoreline.
The beach is easy to find once you reach the village of Galilee, as it sits right at the edge of the harbor. On summer weekends it fills up fast, so arriving early in the morning makes for a much calmer visit.
In 2015, a visitor was thrown into the air by an underground explosion caused by corroded copper cables buried beneath the beach. The incident prompted a review of electrical infrastructure at public beaches across Rhode Island.
