The Sandburg Halls complex comprises four interconnected towers with a combined capacity to accommodate 2,700 university students in Milwaukee.
Construction of the complex occurred in phases, with the north and west towers completed in 1971, south tower in 1973, and east tower in 2001.
The residence halls bear the name of Carl Sandburg, who served as secretary to Milwaukee's first Socialist mayor, Emil Seidel.
The complex includes a two-floor common area connecting all towers, housing University offices and providing essential services for residents.
The north tower reaches 242 feet in height and contained an antenna structure that extended to 481 feet until its removal in 2024.
