The 209-acre park contains a large reservoir, tennis courts, baseball fields, biking paths, and multiple children's play areas across its grounds.
The area transformed from Fresh Pond to Silver Lake in the mid-nineteenth century, later becoming a reservoir connected to the Ashokan system in 1917.
The Silver Lake Cemetery section holds numerous immigrants, including victims of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and Irish refugees from the Great Famine.
The park provides free access and parking facilities, with multiple entry points along Forest Avenue, Victory Boulevard, and Clove Road in Staten Island.
The former drinking water reservoir now functions as part of the drainage system for the world's largest underground water storage tank network.
