Casa Belvedere, Italian Renaissance cultural center in Grymes Hill, Staten Island, US.
Casa Belvedere is a masonry building from 1908 in the Grymes Hill neighborhood of Staten Island, New York, now used as a cultural center dedicated to Italian art and heritage. The structure features a clay tile roof, classical Ionic columns, bracketed eaves, and a conservatory that connects to the main body of the building.
The building was constructed in 1908 as the private home of Louis A. and Laura Stirn, and later served as the official residence for presidents of Wagner College. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
Casa Belvedere houses a collection of Italian art and rotating exhibitions that reflect the creative output of Italy across different periods. Visitors can see works in painting, sculpture, and decorative arts brought or created by Italians who settled in the United States.
The center is on Howard Avenue in Staten Island and can be reached by car or public transit, with parking available nearby. It is worth checking the program in advance, as events such as lectures and film screenings change with the season.
The grounds include a collection of classic Italian automobiles, among them models from Alfa Romeo, displayed as part of the permanent collection. These cars sit alongside the art and craft objects inside, connecting design traditions from different fields of Italian making.
