The Skylands Region spans Morris, Sussex, and Warren counties and covers roughly 60,000 acres of parkland with lakes, rivers, and rolling terrain. Large protected areas like High Point, Allamuchy Mountain, and Delaware Water Gap provide access to this network of green spaces and natural areas.
The area preserves remnants of the Morris Canal Greenway, a 19th-century transport network with surviving locks and inclined planes that represent New Jersey's industrial past. The canal connected quarries and mines in the north to markets in Newark and Jersey City.
