St. Anthony Hall House
St. Anthony Hall House, Gothic Revival fraternity building in University City, Philadelphia, United States
St. Anthony Hall is a three-story brick structure with limestone trim serving as a fraternity house in University City, Philadelphia. The building contains a dining room spanning its full width, a library, dormitory rooms, and metal emergency balconies.
The Delta Alumni Association commissioned architects Cope & Stewardson to design and construct this fraternity house between 1907 and 1908. The project emerged from the brotherhood's growing need for a dedicated space to house its activities.
The hall displays fraternity symbols including a stone tau cross above the second-floor windows and a stained glass window depicting Saint Anthony. These elements define how the building looks and reflect its role as a gathering place for members.
The building sits at 3637 Locust Walk in a central campus location and is easily reached on foot. Gothic Revival architectural details are best viewed during daylight hours, particularly the features around windows and entry areas.
The front hall on the first floor features intricate wood paneling, a fireplace, and a stained glass chandelier that showcase the craftsmanship of the era. These spaces convey a sense of comfort and reflect the prosperous period of the early 1900s.
