St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Roman Catholic Church, Catholic church in Detroit, United States
St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Roman Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic church building in Detroit featuring two prominent towers with Neo-Baroque exterior elements and Beaux-Arts interior design. The structure was completed in 1913 and stands on Dubois Street with detailed architectural ornamentation throughout.
The parish was founded in 1898 when Polish residents requested that Bishop John Foley establish a church closer to their neighborhood. The community acquired the existing Bethel Church building and transformed it into their primary worship space.
Polish families built this church as a spiritual center where they could worship in their own language and tradition. The building became a gathering place where the community celebrated its heritage and maintained connections to their homeland.
The building has changed ownership multiple times in recent decades and is currently in use by another congregation. Visitors should check ahead about access, as the building may not always be open to the public without prior arrangements.
The three bells housed in the church towers were each named after major donors: Anthony, Francis, and Stanislaus. These names commemorate the people who contributed significantly to the church's construction and support.
