Built in 1922 as the United Hebrew Schools headquarters, the building transitioned to Scott Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church in 1929 after demographic changes.
The building represents the evolution of Detroit's religious communities, serving first Jewish students and later becoming the first African-American Methodist Episcopal congregation.
Located at 609 East Kirby Street, the building underwent renovation in 2016 to create residential lofts with various apartment configurations.
The structure housed classrooms for 1500 students and contained an auditorium that could accommodate 2000 people during its time as a Hebrew school.
